It has been said that the lottery is "a tax on people who can't do math." It has been summed up by the Motley Fool that "Every time you play the lottery, you are essentially spending a dollar to buy 50 cents."

The purpose of this little lottery game is to demonstrate the rotten odds that lotteries actually give you. Go ahead and try as many times as you want. Be advised that really big numbers (say, five zeroes or more) take a long time to play, but don't worry... if you get tired of waiting you can click a different number and try again.

This particular lotto is loosely based on the California State Lottery odds. My rules are as follows:

Just like in a real lottery, you are allowed -- nay, encouraged -- to buy as many tickets as you want to at a time. Unlike a real lottery, you can comfortably buy 100,000 tickets if you REALLY want to, then quickly find out how much you won (or, as is almost always the case, lost) in the long run. Each time you click the button, you start with $0 again, so you can keep trying different combinations of numbers to see if they'll help you come out ahead.
